Meet Brian Chye, DTM, an MMTMC member who is now serving Toastmasters community as the Area Director. Find out more about what he thinks of becoming a mentor at MMTMC.

  1. Tell us a little more about yourself and what do you do?

I am a Procurement Professional working at the National University of Singapore. My role involves supporting the procurement process, maintaining compliance and ensuring value for money for our purchases. My hobbies include reading, gaming, travelling, and of course Club Hopping as a Toastmaster. I am looking forward to many fruitful years ahead meeting like-minded fellows and continue my journey in our movement.

  1. What has been your most memorable experience in MMTMC so far?

There are many memorable experience in MMTMC till date. I am especially humbled and inspired by our team harmony in preparing for the Humorous Speech and Evaluation Contest in 2016 where I was the Organizing Chair.

  1.      How has being a toastmaster changed your life?

Having the trust of our members, taking on greater responsibility and delivering the results have help to make me a better person. While I have joined toastmaster to improve my public speaking, I have gained acceptance into the MMTMC family, grow as an individual, stay grounded and work well in a team setting.

  1. What motivates you to take up a role as a mentor?

I hope to work towards supporting our members and helping them to experience the MMTMC culture, to continue their journey of growth.

  1. What is your top de-stressing activity?

I enjoyed gaming; it helps me in de-stressing. Reading the newspaper comes a close second.

  1. If you can invite anyone for a dinner, who will you invite and why?

There are too many people whom I would love to invite to dinner. If I can only choose one, I would choose my grandmother whom I was especially close to. While she has left us quite some time ago, her imprints on me have left a lasting impression, I would not be the person I am today without her support and it would be wonderful to have dinner again.
